A Heritage Village Cottage
Getting back to basics
Situated on the edge of the heritage village of Montecute in Somerset, this Cottage sleeps 4/5 ideally suited to families with younger children or couples looking for a break from the city. Pefectly situated between Glastonbury and West Bay you get the best of the two counties of Dorset and Somerset.
Anne the owner of this property bought this house as her own little bolt hole, for respite in the country - walking and fossil hunting. She is always happy to give her guests helpful advice on where the best local fossils can be found.
The idea behind this delightful country abode is to get back to basics and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. In this cottage you will not find "all the mod-cons" such as dishwashers, microwaves or flatscreen tvs with sky subscriptions, what you will find though is (in our opinion) something better - a country home with the environment in mind, eco friendly products, a quiet space to unwind away from the bustle of city life and a bolt hold in a beautiful village to escape from the world.
As a Dog Friendly holiday property you will find an abundance of walks in the local area, our favorite spot is Ham Hill just a few minutes walk away, where you will find a maze of paths to walk your dog as well as The Prince of Wales pub for a spot of lunch. The views from here are divine!

It would be our pleasure to welcome you to Abbey Cottage. It is one of four houses in a row, situated on the edge of the heritage village of Montacute in South Somerset.
An eco-style simple and basic, yet fully functional family home.
Sometimes less is more, and this charming cottage is the epitome of that.
With the romantic ambience created by the wood burning fireplace, and some exposed old soulful stone as a back feature wall, the cottage is warm and welcoming as a couples retreat, or a family break.
This small but pretty cottage is idyllically located in a quiet cul-de-sac, with an outdoor sitting area which overlooks the sheep grazing fields towards the former Abbey, Church and Ham Hills beyond.
Montacute is best known for its historic house and tranquil parkland. A perfect choice for passionate walkers, with leisurely strolls starting from our doorstep… into the village, and further afield the renowned parkland, into the woods, on the hills and through countryside.
The house accommodates up to 5 guests (we recommend 4 adults max) and is set over 3 floors, with 2 bedrooms and I bathroom. It has a quaint private garden with a dining area in the back, where come the warmer months, you can relax and soak in the rays of the sun, and enjoy alfresco dining.
There is a garden shed for storing bikes and firewood.
It has one private parking space which is situated on a private shared driveway, (narrow entrance not suitable for long base vans), and additional on street parking is available too.
Albeit it is one of the smaller of the four cottages, it will provide you with all you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
The Somerset County offers 3 areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Quantock, Mendip and Blackdown Hills. Lose yourself in the glory of nature, take a ride on a steam train, visit a traditional farmers’ market or explore your mystical side at Glastonbury.
If you aren't opposed to further travelling, you could venture out to attractions of Bath and Bristol, mysterious Stonehenge, the West Somerset Steam Railway, Exmoor National Park, and the famous Jurassic coastline in Dorset, which is renowned for its fossil hunting. The area also benefits from good train and coach links to London.
